REVEREND ROGER H. BROWN
Pastor Roger H. Brown was born on November 23, 1961 in Washington D.C. to John Henry and Bernice P. Brown. Roger is the fourth son of five siblings. Roger accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Washington D.C., under the leadership of Reverend Roosevelt Yancey. At Gethsemane he was baptized, attended Sunday school, and the summer youth camp.
A native Washingtonian, Roger graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1979. After high school, he attended Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina majoring in Therapeutic Recreation. Upon returning to Washington D.C. in 1984, he joined the Nazareth Baptist Church. In 1988, he was appointed to the Deacon Board as a walking deacon and was ordained in September 1992. While serving on the Deacon Board, Roger was a member of the Washington Baptist Deacon Association and served as a deacon for 13 years.
In July 1997, the spirit of the Lord led Rev. Brown to Greater New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Melvin G. Brown. At Greater New Hope, he continued serving as a deacon for three years until receiving the calling to preach the gospel. He preached his initial trial sermon on July 8, 2001. Since receiving the calling, he has become an ordained reverend, ordained in March 2005 at Greater New Hope Baptist Church by the Missionary Baptist Minister’s Conference of Washington D.C. and Vicinity. He is presently an active member. God’s calling has led Rev. Brown to preach, teach, and to be educated in His holy Word. The inspiration of the Holy Spirit and his mother, Bernice Brown, he was encouraged to further his education. He attended the Washington Bible College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies and a master’s degree in Christian education from the Faith Bible College and Seminary.
As part of his Christian growth he served as Assistant to the Pastor of New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. William R. Wood. He was able to continue his outreach ministry consisting of visiting sick and shut-in at hospitals and more, where he prayed and ministered to them. He has a heart for people and a passion to reach out to them when called on. Rev. Roger Brown thanks God for Bishop Melvin G. Brown and Rev. William R. Wood, for being his mentors, leading and guiding him in the ministry. Rev. Roger H. Brown would like to thank his grandmother, Martha Pearson, who has gone to glory for being instrumental in is upbringing, and his mother, Bernice P. Brown for leading him to Christ.
Rev. Roger H. Brown is the proud father of Lorenzo M. Brown and thanks God for showing him how to lead, love, and teach his son about the church and the importance of putting God first in his life.
